"What's a few years when we intend to spend the rest of our lives together"

We spoke to bride-to-be Kayleigh Plant about how she survived a long distance relationship and now they are back in the same town and, following a super cute engagement, looking forward to spending the rest of their lives together.

On a recent holiday to Rome Joe Allen proposed to Kayleigh Plant. As they begin to look forward to their future Kayleigh told us there story so far.

Leicester born Kayleigh Plant, 26, met Joe Allen, 23, (both pictured above) back in 2014 whilst working in a bar in Ipswich called Isaacs on the quay.

After working together for two months the two officially became boyfriend and girlfriend. They could tell from the start they were meant to be. However, ten months later their relationship was tested as Kayleigh moved back to her home town Leicester as Joe continued his studies in Ipswich.

Kayleigh said: "We only saw each other at the weekend and both made the 300 mile round trip regularly. The hardest part was the driving really. I always trusted him and he trusted me and that got us through."

After living apart for almost two years and surviving a test that even the strongest relationships struggle with - distance - Kayleigh got offered a place on the Adult Nursing Course at the University of Suffolk meaning they could once again live in the same town.

As the couple grew together they realised their shared a fondness for city breaks. After visiting places like Paris and Barcelona Kayleigh had no idea how life changing her recent visit to Rome (April 2018) would be.

She said: "It was the second day of our trip and after spending the most perfect day sightseeing we went for an amazing meal close to the Trevi fountain. On the walk back we stopped at the fountain and both threw in a coin and made a wish. Later Joe told me that this is where he had planned to propose, however, with it being Easter holidays there were a large number of people around and he knew that I wouldn't want that. Back at the hotel [Joe] got down on one knee and said he had wished that I would no longer be his girlfriend and presented me with a ring. Of course I said yes. It's lucky he didn't do it at the fountain as I was an absolute mess and within a few seconds I had black makeup streaming down my face."

Serious couple goals! And look at the ring!

As Kayleigh looks forward to her future together with her new fiance she says: "We intend to have a long engagement as I still have just under two years left of my nursing degree and then we need to save for a while. However, what's a few years when we intend to spend the rest of our lives together!"
